About The Position

The Law Library Archivist supports the processing and preservation of archival and special collections within the Bounds Law Library. Assists with the management and organization of special and archival materials. Produces collection guides and finding aids. Provides reference and research services to library patrons. Assists with the installation and maintenance of library exhibits. Participates in digital initiatives related to special and archival collections. Provides leadership, guidance, and support to student workers. Assists with outreach initiatives as needed. The Archivist is also responsible for the functional supervision of student workers engaged in work within special and archival collections, providing leadership, guidance, and support. In addition, they participate in collection development activities, assist with outreach initiatives, and engage in professional activities based on interest, skill, and library needs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library and information science (or equivalent degree) from an ALA-accredited library or information science school
  • Project management and/or workflow optimization/evaluation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based setting where consultation, flexibility, collaboration, cooperation, and resilience are essential
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in archival studies or other relevant field
  • Experience in special collections and archives at an academic institution
  • Knowledge of legal history and familiarity with legal materials
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience is preferred
