About The Position
The Law Enforcement Technician position with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is a critical role that supports sworn personnel by performing various technical law enforcement-related services and support functions. This position is essential for maintaining the operational efficiency of the Sheriff's Department and involves a range of responsibilities that require both technical skills and the ability to work under pressure in emergency situations. In this role, the technician will be responsible for preparing requisitions for unit supplies, maintaining inventory in the computer system, and determining the need for restocking supplies. The technician will also ensure that departmental vehicles are inspected, serviced, and maintained to meet operational needs, which includes completing reports on monthly mileage usage and fuel consumption. Additionally, the technician will coordinate maintenance and repairs of facility vehicles and maintain accurate records of these activities. The technician will act as a first point of contact for service requests, including emergency calls, and will need to differentiate between routine, priority, and emergency requests. This role includes assigning and dispatching field units in response to these requests, advising them of potential problem areas, and monitoring their activities. The technician will also liaise with other law enforcement agencies and emergency service organizations, ensuring effective communication and coordination during incidents. Moreover, the technician will be responsible for managing evidence and personal property, including receiving, cataloguing, and storing items in compliance with departmental policies. They will assist in crime prevention efforts by maintaining an inventory of resources and distributing crime prevention materials. The role may also involve assisting in investigations by gathering and examining records pertinent to cases being investigated. The position requires the ability to drive throughout Los Angeles County and may involve physical demands such as heavy lifting and working in various environments. The technician must be prepared to work any shift, including overtime, and handle potentially volatile situations with professionalism and composure.
