About The Position

The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for Law Enforcement Support Technician. This position processes inmates through the city's detention center (including processing arrest documents), performs criminal information searches, processes bail and bond transactions, coordinates sentencing information with courts, processes releases, and provides inmate and warrant information to the general public. The Department of Public Safety operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Assigned work schedules may change and may be for any shift and any day of the week. Unforeseen scheduling events may require the extension of a normal work shift, up to an additional full shift, with little or no advance notice. Any position with the Department of Public Safety requires the following additional screening: background investigation and polygraph. Sensitive and/or confidential aspects of your personal life will be explored during this phase of the process. Some positions require a psychological suitability assessment.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree, OR
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of clerical experience in a court or legal system environment, OR
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and three (3) years of clerical experience involving public contact and customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • Verbal fluency in Spanish is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieves and inputs inmates' criminal and personal information in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and other appropriate criminal justice databases.
  • Processes information obtained from arrest documents and inmate interviews.
  • Distributes booking information to appropriate departments and, if applicable, to other law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintains and verifies a variety of automated and manual logs, records and files.
  • Performs a variety of record keeping, filing, indexing and other general clerical work.
  • Processes warrant, bail and bond transactions including accepting and filing cash and related documentation.
  • Prepares and reviews appropriate documentation, reports, and bank deposits.
  • Explains bail posting options and procedures.
  • Coordinates activity and communication with federal, state and local law enforcement and correctional agencies pertaining to inmate detainment and release.
  • Coordinates court activity with staff of the city's Municipal Court including sentencing information.
  • Provides administrative support to the Municipal Court as necessary.
  • Records, secures and releases inmates' property and money.
  • Answers inquiries from citizens, attorneys and representatives from city departments and outside agencies regarding inmates and department operations, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of documents and inmate information in accordance with state law and department rules and regulations.
