About The Position

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC), through strategic partnerships, prepares the federal law enforcement community to safeguard America's people, property, and institutions. We are a unique inter-agency organization preparing the next generation of law enforcement officers to meet our Nation's most pressing security challenges. This announcement is a part of the Voluntary Applicant File (VAF).

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Current and former federal employees within the General Schedule (GS) must meet the time-in-grade requirements.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state issued driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain FLETC Law Enforcement Instructor certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Must undergo pre-appointment and random drug testing.
  • Must meet job-related medical and/or fitness standards.
  • Must be able to rotate to other programs and/or training sections.
  • Some positions carry a firearm and are subject to the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Some positions may require completion of a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.
  • Physical Techniques Instructors must undergo a Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) test.
  • Firearms Instructors must pass an initial firearms proficiency test.
  • Some positions may require access to classified national security information.
  • Eligible for situational-only telework based on agency policy.
  • Overtime may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or agent with full arrest authority.
  • Held a federal civilian position in the 1801 occupational series.

Responsibilities

  • Instructing basic and advanced law enforcement training classes.
  • Planning, coordinating, and executing field training and lab exercises.
  • Administering class curricula.
  • Monitoring and documenting the progress of students.
  • Recommending and executing remedial and corrective action for students.
  • Participating in the development of law enforcement program/course materials.
  • Conducting research on emerging law enforcement technologies, practices, and techniques.
