About The Position

Law Clerk/Senior Law Clerk/Career Attorney for Judge Lance E. Neff, for a position beginning immediately. The law clerk/attorney will be responsible for conducting legal research, preparing bench memoranda, drafting opinions and orders, and analyzing complex issues across a diverse appellate docket. The First District Court of Appeal reviews civil and criminal matters from trial courts throughout north Florida, as well as challenges to final agency action. The caseload is demanding, the work is intellectually rigorous, and the environment requires initiative, sound judgment, and clear writing. Judge Neff values candidates who combine strong analytical skills with common sense and good character. Candidates possessing real-world experience, particularly prior or current military service, are especially encouraged to apply. A genuine curiosity about Western history and tradition; philosophy, notably epistemology; and the development of American jurisprudence is most welcomed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited law school.
  • Excellent academic credentials required.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain a large caseload and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of legal principles, statutory and case law, and court rules and procedures.
  • Ability to grasp, comprehend, and analyze complex legal issues and complicated factual matters.
  • Ability to perform exacting work, attentive to details.
  • Ability to digest and communicate ideas and concepts.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, impartiality, and honesty in handling matters before the court.
  • Ability to work effectively with judges and court staff.
