  • Uses flatwork iron to press applicable items, excluding sheets and garments.
  • Feeds items into flatwork ironer and keeps pace with its speed.
  • Recognizes different types of fabrics: synthetic, silk, wool, and cotton.
  • Sorts laundry by the washability of the fabrics.
  • Assesses linen to ensure standards for further processing are met.
  • Keeps work area neat and orderly at all times.
  • Carries out specific tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Shakes out tangled, semi-dry items.
  • Adheres to all safety warning signs and uses appropriate lifting mechanics when lifting heavy items.
  • Makes note of any fire/safety hazards identified during shift and notifies supervisor.
  • Performs duties having a sequence of several related tasks based on oral instruction.
  • Reads and understands written directions to carry out VA policies and procedures related to the job.
  • Understands infection control procedures.
