About The Position

Responsible for hotel laundry daily operations and services. This position directs and works with employees to wash, dry and iron linen for both guest rooms and the Food and Beverage/Culinary Department within existing time constraints. The role maintains a safe and clean work environment and strives to ensure guest and employee satisfaction while maximizing the department's financial performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2 years experience in the laundry, housekeeping, or related professional area

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring quality, standards, and meeting customer expectations daily.
  • Supervise and manage employees, understanding employee positions well enough to perform duties in their absence.
  • Communicate the importance of safety procedures, detail procedure codes, ensure employee understanding of safety codes, and monitor processes and procedures related to safety.
  • Comprehend budgets, operating statements, and payroll progress reports as needed to assist in the financial management of the department.
  • Ensure consistent workflow to minimize peaks and valleys in production.
  • Bring issues to the attention of the department manager and Human Resources as necessary.
  • Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Supervise daily Laundry shift operations and ensure compliance with all policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Order and manage necessary supplies, ensuring workers have supplies, equipment, tools, and uniforms necessary to do their jobs.
  • Order cleaning supplies and uniforms within budget.
  • Understand the impact of department’s operations on the overall hotel financial goals and objectives and manage to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Participate in the management of department’s controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Work effectively with the Engineering department on Laundry equipment maintenance needs.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and continually communicate a clear and consistent message regarding the departmental goals to produce desired results.
  • Operate all department equipment as necessary and report malfunctions.
  • Develop, maintain, and use effective back-up plans for breakdowns.
  • Evaluate and implement new techniques, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure and maintain the productivity level of employees.
  • Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others; advocate sound financial/business decision making; demonstrate honesty/integrity; lead by example.
  • Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with employees and ensure employees do the same within the team.
  • Provide services that are above and beyond for customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Improve service by communicating and assisting individuals to understand guest needs, providing guidance, feedback, and individual coaching when needed.
  • Set a positive example for guest relations.
  • Empower employees to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ensure employee success and event success recognitions are taking place in all shifts.
  • Identify the developmental needs of others and coach, mentor, or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Recruit, interview, select, hire, and promote employees in the organization.
  • Supervise staffing levels to ensure that operational needs and financial objectives are met.
  • Effectively schedule employees to business demands and track employee time and attendance.
  • Solicit employee feedback, utilize an “open door” policy, and review employee satisfaction results to identify and address employee problems or concerns.
  • Manage employee progressive discipline procedures.
  • Manage the employee performance appraisal process.
  • Ensure hotel policies are administered fairly and consistently, disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs) and support the Peer Review Process.
  • Celebrate successes and publicly recognize the contributions of team members; ensure employee recognition is taking place on all shifts.
