About The Position

Overview: The Laundry Dryer Technical Expert (Gas Dryer Focus) serves as the senior technical authority for gas dryer systems supporting product development, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance for the North American market. This role provides deep expertise in gas combustion, airflow, heat management, safety systems, and regulatory standards, guiding engineering teams to deliver safe, reliable, and high-performance gas dryers. The position is ideal for a highly experienced industry expert, including senior or retired professionals, who wish to contribute technical leadership without direct people or project management responsibility. Key Responsibilities: 1. Gas Dryer Technical Leadership Act as the subject-matter expert for residential gas dryer systems, including burners, ignition systems, gas valves, combustion chambers, venting, and safety controls. Review and advise on system architecture, component selection, and design robustness for gas dryers. Identify technical risks related to combustion stability, thermal performance, airflow balance, and safety early in development. 2. Performance, Safety & Regulatory Compliance Guide teams on U.S. and Canadian gas dryer standards and regulations, including UL, CSA, DOE, AHAM, and relevant local codes. Support compliance with gas safety, emissions, efficiency, and lint management requirements. Advise on certification testing strategy and test result interpretation. 3. Quality, Reliability & Field Issue Resolution Lead technical analysis and guidance on gas dryer quality issues, including ignition failures, flame stability, overheating, noise, odor, and venting concerns. Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for field and test failures. Help define validation, durability, and abuse test plans specific to gas dryer risks. 4. Technology & Product Improvement Provide input on gas dryer performance optimization, including drying efficiency, cycle time, temperature control, and fabric care. Share best practices and lessons learned from prior gas dryer platforms. Support benchmarking of competitor gas dryer designs from a technical perspective. 5. Knowledge Transfer & Mentorship Mentor engineers on gas dryer design fundamentals, safety principles, and testing methodologies. Review technical documents, test reports, and design changes. Help elevate overall gas dryer technical competency across U.S. and global R&D teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 15+ years of hands-on experience in gas dryer design, development, or performance engineering.
  • Strong expertise in gas combustion systems, burners, ignition, airflow, and safety controls.
  • Deep understanding of UL, CSA, DOE, and AHAM standards related to gas dryers.
  • Proven experience resolving complex safety, performance, and quality issues in gas appliances.
  • Strong technical communication and mentoring skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at major appliance manufacturers (Whirlpool, GE Appliances, Electrolux, LG, Samsung, Bosch, Haier, etc.).
  • Experience supporting certification testing and regulatory reviews for gas appliances.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and supplier quality related to gas components.
  • Open to flexible, part-time, or consulting-style engagement.
