About The Position

Chautauqua Institution owns and operates the Chautauqua Hotel Company , a historic full-service comprehensive hotel that has 150 rooms for guests. The Athenaeum Hotel houses the Heirloom Restaurant, and the Lobby Lounge. The Athenaeum Hotel is open from late April through October for conferences and events. The Hotel is in full operation during the Chautauqua Institution summer season, from late June through late August. About Your Compensation Compensation for this position starts at $16.00/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $17.00/Hour. About Your Work Day Launder articles according to specifications of equipment/chemicals, including but not limited to: linens, towels, uniforms while ensuring the highest standard of cleanliness/safety. Load articles into washers/dryers and regulate machine processes, including volume of detergent, water, bleach and other additives. Adhere to internal procedures for the use of chemical cleaners on designated materials/areas to maintain safety standards and prevent damage. Remove articles from washers/dryers and sort, count, fold, and hang articles as required. Follow established processes and procedures to label and store designated articles or otherwise ensure the prompt return of articles to the appropriate department or guest. Participate in the routine inventory of articles stored in laundry facilities. Use daily assignment boards and checklists to efficiently complete laundry tasks from high to low priority within the allotted timeframe without compromising quality. Ensure washers, dryers, and chemical dispensing systems are functioning properly and receive emergency/preventative maintenance as required. Maintain work area and equipment in good condition, including cleaning lint traps daily. Pick up trash/debris, vacuum, empty wastebasket, and transport waste to the disposal area. Report maintenance issues, equipment damages, or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately for resolution. Comply with OSHA’s Blood Borne Pathogen and Hazard Communication/Safety Data Standards, including proper use of protective equipment when cleaning up blood or other potentially infectious materials and/or using cleaning chemicals. Interact positively with guests, anticipate guest needs and respond promptly to answer questions or resolve concerns. Establish and maintain cooperative, productive working relationships with team members and management. Actively participate in team meetings and training/development programs, including sharing expertise with new hires. Report work-related injuries immediately to manager/supervisor and Human Resources using appropriate Injury Report, even if not seeking medical attention.

  • Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. In the case of seasonal positions working less than 6-months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30-days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August.
