As a Launch Controls Engineer at GM, you will be integral in implementing machining controls processes, focusing on writing and troubleshooting machine logic, qualifying OEM equipment, and collaborating with various stakeholders throughout the build and install phases. This role emphasizes safety, process quality, and continuous improvement, utilizing agile methodologies in a supportive and inclusive environment.

  • Provide daily support of launch operations with a focus on personnel and equipment safety, process quality, and uptime.
  • Offer technical and engineering support to assist production and maintenance in troubleshooting equipment and process failures.
  • Identify and execute projects that align with departmental business objectives and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Ensure that new and existing equipment meets operational requirements and adheres to GM Safety and Controls standards.
  • Provide guidance to maintenance and production teams, offering technical troubleshooting, direction, and safety counsel.
  • Maintain proper documentation, such as drawings and manuals, for all equipment in the assigned area.
  • Collaborate with others to develop maintenance standard operating procedures (SOPs) and task instruction sheets (TIS).
  • Identify opportunities for technical training and knowledge transfer among Controls Engineers and Maintenance Teams.
  • Keep management informed of the current status and emerging trends in areas of expertise.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of controls engineering experience.
  • Flexibility to work daily overtime and weekends as scheduled, and potential for off-shift work when required.
  • Demonstrated experience developing/troubleshooting controls logic for CNC, ancillary, leak test, plug install, and wash equipment.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation or Siemens PLCs and HMIs.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc Robot programming.
  • Cognex or Matrox Vision System Programming.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and various machining processes.
