  • Study blueprints and job orders to determine specifications and material requirements.
  • Start lathe machines and monitor operations to ensure specifications are met.
  • Select cutting tools based on specifications and knowledge of metal properties.
  • Lift and position metal stock or workpieces in machines using fasteners and hand tools.
  • Adjust machine controls and tool settings to maintain specified tolerances.
  • Inspect sample workpieces for conformance with specifications using gauges and micrometers.
  • Crank machines through cycles, adjusting tool positions and machine controls as needed.
  • Set cutting speeds, depths, and feed rates, positioning tools in relation to workpieces.
  • Prior work history in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • High degree of job knowledge, skills, and precision accuracy within specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Operational knowledge of machine shop tools and power tools.
  • Ability to identify differences, issues, or detect changes in operation performance.
