The Lathe Operator position at IPEX Group of Companies involves operating machinery to manufacture Frialen electro-fusion couplings in a PVC facility. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and continuous improvement, requiring attention to detail and the ability to work under limited supervision. The operator will be responsible for setting up and running CNC lathe machinery, conducting quality inspections, and ensuring production goals are met.

  • Set up & operate the Friatec band saw and cut HDPE pipe to proper length for use in CNC lathe under limited supervision after saw is set up.
  • Run couplings on lathe and make basic program adjustments to keep couplings within specifications; produce couplings at a standard pieces-per-hour rate.
  • Utilize reading equipment and Friamat fusion processors for coupling quality inspection.
  • Perform dimension inspections on couplings using computerized measuring machine.
  • Assist in lathe changeover under supervision.
  • Perform changeovers on lathe in an acceptable period with limited supervision.
  • Enter, modify and troubleshoot the lathe program and correct issues as they arise.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • Knowledgeable in imperial and metric measurement systems.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred; plastics experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience using a bandsaw and lathe is preferred.
  • Comfortable using hand tools and operating a forklift.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Good teammate with a demonstrated ability to contribute to and cultivate a positive team environment.
  • Comply with all safety standards and 5S guidelines.
  • Ability to work 12-hour continental shifts (4 days on, 4 days off); 84 hours bi-weekly.
  • Experience in a plastics manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with CNC machinery.
