The City of Aurora is seeking experienced Telecommunications Operator (911 dispatchers) for LATERAL entry with the Aurora Police Department. LATERAL Telecommunication Operator candidates must have a minimum of two (2) years of employment as a full-time 911 Dispatcher/Telecommunications Operator with a law enforcement agency. Police dispatching and 911 call taking experience is required. Under the direction of the Lead Telecommunications Operator, Telecom Operators are responsible for receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and dispatching police, fire, medical and other emergency services accordingly. Duties of this position may include but are not limited to: Dispatch and track the locations of public safety agencies dispatched by the Aurora Police Department's Telecommunications Center; Perform constant data entry and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems; Extract data and record essential information during emergency calls; Operate a variety of communications equipment including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management System (RMS) radio consoles, telephones and other computer systems; Maintain required certifications to provide Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and police related data entry and queries (Training and certification courses provided); Perform general clerical duties; Other duties as assigned related to position.
