About The Position

The Lateral Corrections Officer (CO) position at the City of North Las Vegas involves overseeing and directing the activities of inmates within the Community Correctional Center and during transport to other facilities. The role requires performing security checks, processing inmate intake and release, and maintaining order during various inmate activities. The officer must remain vigilant to prevent dangerous situations and ensure the safety and security of both inmates and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 21 at time of application.
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate POST CAT 3 Certification within established time period.
  • Ability to work in a security type environment and manage stressful and potentially dangerous situations.
  • Visual acuity of 20/20 in best eye and not worse than 20/30 in worse eye with/without correction.
  • Ability to recognize 4/6 plates on titmus color vision test.
  • Average hearing not exceeding 25db at specified frequencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in law enforcement or corrections.
  • First aid and CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform security checks on building and inmates.
  • Process intake and release of inmates.
  • Provide security and transportation of inmates to and from medical facilities, court, and work details.
  • Supervise and maintain order and security during meals, attorney visits, and recreation of inmates.
  • Conduct random or selective searches of visitors, inmates, and inmate housing areas for contraband.
  • Remain alert to possible dangerous or emergency situations and take preventative measures.
  • Conduct inventory checks on departmental equipment and inmate property.
  • Prepare concise and accurate reports and maintain accurate records and files.
  • Inspect facility for cleanliness and disrepair, ordering repair work as necessary.
  • Read and write reports and other documents.
  • Assist in training new personnel as needed.
  • Serve warrants, summons, and subpoenas as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
