The Laser Tube Cutter Programmer is responsible for planning, writing, and maintaining CNC programs that control the contour path machining of metal parts on a burn table. This role requires a strong understanding of CNC programming and the ability to analyze technical drawings and design data to determine the necessary dimensions and configurations for cuts. The programmer will select appropriate cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates to ensure precision in the machining process. Safety is paramount, and the use of safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection is mandatory at all times during operations. In this position, the programmer will determine reference points and the direction of machine cutting paths, compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outline the sequence of operations required to machine each part. The programmer will prepare geometric layouts using graph paper or computer-assisted drafting software to illustrate the location of reference points and cutting paths. Additionally, they will write instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide the setup and operation of the machine, ensuring that all instructions are clear and accurate. The role also involves writing machine instructions in symbolic language to encode numerical control tape or direct numerical control databases, which regulate the movement of the machine along the cutting path. The programmer must compare the encoded tape or computer printout with the original program sheet to ensure accuracy and make necessary revisions to eliminate any instruction errors or omissions. Observing the operation of the machine during trial runs is essential to prove the taped or programmed instructions, ensuring that the final output meets quality standards. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the overall operations of the manufacturing process.
