About The Position

As a Laser Tracker at The Boring Company, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and fidelity of tunnel boring machines (TBM) components throughout their manufacturing lifecycle. This position involves working in a collaborative environment, monitoring critical dimensions of TBM components from initial production to final assembly, and providing valuable feedback to engineering teams for process improvements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certification.
  • 3+ years of professional experience working with laser trackers and/or coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
  • Experience using inspection tools and equipment such as micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, height gauges, optical comparators, and laser trackers.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data and communicating results in a report.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in applied science.
  • Experience with Leica laser trackers (AT401 or similar) and/or Verisurf software.
  • Strong understanding of geometric relationships.
  • Understanding of the manufacturing process of large structures from concept to completion.
  • Ability to precisely locate mechanisms and fine structural detail in extreme environments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to visualize 3D space and integrate complex geometries on both large and small fabrications.
  • Demonstrated leadership and dependability.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Ability to find solutions to complex problems using critical thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to utilize structural and machining drawings in laying out and evaluating parts and assemblies.
  • Collect geometric data using laser tracker through model-based software such as Verisurf.
  • Establish and apply reference systems for tasks on parts or assemblies.
  • Analyze collected data to provide direction for fabrication operations.
  • Integrate process monitoring with fabrication processes to locate welding and machining details.
  • Apply new fabrication processes on large structures while understanding environmental effects.
  • Communicate effectively with fabricators, machinists, assemblers, engineers, and other parties as required.
  • Ensure operations are performed safely while meeting quality standards.
  • Maintain an orderly environment that maximizes utility for all team members.
