Specific responsibilities include: Determine the sequence of machine operations and select the proper cutting tools needed to machine workpieces into the desired shapes. Revise programs to eliminate errors, and retest programs to check that problems have been solved. Analyze job orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and design data in order to calculate dimensions, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates. Determine reference points, machine cutting paths, or hole locations, and compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures. Observe machines on trial runs or conduct computer simulations to ensure that programs and machinery will function properly and produce items that meet specifications. Compare computer printouts with original part specifications and blueprints to verify accuracy of instructions. Enter coordinates of hole locations into program memories. Write programs in the language of a machine's controller and store programs for future use. Modify existing programs to enhance efficiency. Enter computer commands to store or retrieve parts patterns, graphic displays, or programs that transfer data to other media. Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, and work for conformance to specifications. Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers. Read blueprints, data, manuals, or other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment methods, certification processes, formulas, or measuring instruments required. Sign off or reject fabricated parts and keep track of results to determine corrective measures. Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status. Notify General Manager of production problems. Discard or reject products, materials, or equipment not meeting specifications. Write test or inspection reports describing results, recommendations, or needed repairs. Compare colors, shapes, textures, or grades of products or materials with color charts, templates, or samples to verify conformance to standards. Other duties as needed to meet Production requirements.
