Join our team of Laser Operators in our Fabrication department on 2nd Shift who strive to be the best in their field! Depending on education and experience, our starting rate is 20+ depending on background. Our 2nd shift will also receive a $3.00/hr shift differential. 2nd Shift schedule is 2:30PM – 12:45PM. Job summary - Under moderate supervision, fabricates metal products out of sheet and structural steel material according to work order, verbal instructions, and blueprints. Creates layout and outlines sequence of operations, applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and physical properties of metal. Plans fabrication processes following specifications and using knowledge gained by experience Completes first article inspections and ensures that fabricated parts, components and products meet allowed tolerances. Set-up and operate Laser cutting equipment May Set-up and operates brake, rollers, shears, and drill presses. Operate laser machines by setting up, recalling programs, placing material, and positioning the cutting head for the operations of the laser cutting table. Adjust machine settings based on job requirements. Perform routine maintenance on equipment while also conducting general maintenance of table. Examines work pieces and verifies requirements such as dimensions and squareness using protractor, tape measure and other tools to verify correctness of product to drawing. Verifies position with measuring instruments, determines reference points and computes layout dimension. Completes first article inspection and verifies completed workpieces for defects, such as chipped edges or marred surfaces to control scrap waste and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws. May operate forklift and overhead crane/hoist and air tools. Completes all documentation/paperwork accurately and timely. Responsible for movement and proper storage of material or product.

Requirements

  • Able to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Reading and comprehension of work related materials
  • Ability to read blueprints, sketches or drawings
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Ability to read tape measure, square and use/read dial calipers
  • Able to plan and organize work from bill of materials and production schedules
  • Able to perform measurements using tape measure, protractor, square, calipers, and other measuring devices
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Able to work overtime and/or weekends as scheduled
  • Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including steel toe shoes, hearing protection devices and safety glasses
  • High school diploma or GED certificate preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year operating a Laser press preferable Trumpf or Bystronic brand
