The Laser Operator II will operate laser cutting machines to produce precision-cut components while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. This role includes independent task execution, responsibility for machine setup, monitoring, and basic maintenance. In addition to hands-on production responsibilities, this position offers the opportunity to take on expanded responsibilities over time — including mentoring junior operators, supporting process improvements, and contributing to effective workflow within the Fabrication Department. Candidates who demonstrate strong technical ability, initiative, and communication skills will have a clear pathway to increased responsibilities, and advancement into roles such as Team Lead.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 4 years of laser machine experience
  • Advanced math skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Intermediate technical knowledge with reading, understanding blueprints, schematics, and knowledge of laying out material, taking measurements using a tape measure or scale
  • Ability to operate a Hi-Lo and overhead crane
  • Strong customer service skills, detail oriented, good communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to work overtime as needed including weekends
  • Familiarity with nesting components using CAD/CAM or laser cutting software (e.g., Amada AP100, Amada VPSS, SigmaNEST, or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Set up, start up, and operate laser cutting equipment (Amada, Mitsubishi)
  • Effectively comprehend & execute work order instructions per schedules
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work instructions
  • Read cut sheets to ensure the correct material and quantities are being used
  • Monitor machine performance, including pressures, gauges, alarms, tip-ups, and cutting quality
  • Inspect parts per work instruction for dimensional conformity
  • De-burr, grind, and finish metal components as required
  • Ensure material, quantity, and cut accuracy match specifications
  • Perform routine machine checks and basic preventative maintenance
  • Communicate machine issues and support troubleshooting
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and participate in daily shop clean-up
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the fabrication department
