About The Position

The Laser Machine Programmer is responsible for programming, optimizing, and supporting CNC laser cutting operations to ensure efficient, accurate, and repeatable production. This role converts engineering design files into machine-ready programs, optimizes cutting paths and nesting, and works closely with production and engineering teams to support daily manufacturing execution. The role is hands-on and directly tied to throughput, material utilization, and part quality on the shop floor.

Requirements

  • 3–7 years of experience in CNC laser programming or related manufacturing programming roles
  • Strong experience working with DXF and STP files
  • Hands-on knowledge of CNC laser cutting processes
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience with nesting and material optimization
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fiber laser cutting machines
  • Familiarity with laser programming software such as TruTops, BySoft, SigmaNEST, or equivalent
  • Experience working in metal fabrication environments
  • Knowledge of steel, aluminum, and stainless materials
  • Experience supporting press brake or downstream fabrication processes

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify CNC programs for laser cutting machines using DXF, STP, and related file formats
  • Translate engineering drawings and 3D models into machine-ready laser programs
  • Prepare and validate flat patterns for laser cutting
  • Optimize cutting paths, lead-ins, and sequencing for quality and efficiency
  • Create optimized nests to maximize material yield and reduce scrap
  • Select appropriate material grades, thicknesses, and cutting parameters
  • Balance efficiency, cut quality, and production priorities
  • Support daily laser cutting operations by troubleshooting program or cut issues
  • Work with machine operators to resolve quality or execution problems
  • Adjust programs based on machine performance, material variation, or production feedback
  • Support first-run and setup validation on new parts
  • Continuously improve programming standards to reduce cycle time and defects
  • Ensure programs meet drawing requirements and quality standards
  • Support root cause analysis related to cutting defects or rework
  • Maintain program revision control and documentation
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering on part design for manufacturability
  • Work with Production Planning and Scheduling to support priority jobs
  • Coordinate with Quality on inspection requirements and defect resolution
