The Opportunity Leverage your industry expertise and join our expanding team in this Large Account Underwriting Specialist role. We are seeking candidates who reside in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Maryland, Florida, Mississippi, or Georgia area. The Large Account Underwriting Specialist is responsible for developing, growing, and managing a profitable, diversified book of complex construction business. This role targets large contractor accounts with premiums greater than $250,000 and combines advanced risk analysis, significant individual underwriting authority, and strategic broker and client relationship management to drive growth and profitability. This remote role will allow you to do your best work from your home office, collaborating virtually with your team daily. You will travel to our Raleigh office for meetings and company events up to four times a year. Your WORK as a Large Account Specialist will make a difference by: Performs underwriting for large accounts by applying large account modeling and conducting comprehensive account reviews. Prepares and documents file strategy, underwriting rationale, and final decisions while exercising assigned individual underwriting authority. Underwrites highly complex risks with an entrepreneur mindset, identifying opportunities to improve growth, profitability, rate, retention, diversification, and executing targeted marketing plans. Develops and maintains strong agency/and or broker relationships with large producers through responsive service, office/site visits, and in person and virtual meetings; assists agents/brokers with pipeline management strategies. Develops and maintains key client relationships, coordinating service team efforts and proactively anticipating issues, proposing creative, and practical solutions. Determines, coordinates, and directs account management activities with internal partners to deliver a cohesive account experience. Stays current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and market trends; may participate in industry trade groups and external networking activities. Makes recommendations on underwriting policy, appetite, and pricing strategy based on portfolio and market insights. Mentors and guides less experienced underwriters and assist in the development of underwriting training.

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
  • Advanced level knowledge of insurance products/coverage, market segments and marketplace Insurance finance and actuarial concepts including loss trending and development.
  • Advanced-level knowledge of underwriting, pricing, risk selection, territory management
  • Ability to apply underwriting/appetite, tools, systems, and resources to achieve goals, solve complex problems, establish, and build healthy working relationships, lead mentoring relationships, and negotiate, as normally acquired.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
  • At least 25% travel required
