JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Learning Assistance Program (LAP) Teacher and/or the Title I Teacher, this position assists students in need of interventions in literacy and/or mathematics. This position provides instructional support for the in-class model or supplements general education math and reading programs in a pull-out setting. Duties are performed within a classroom, office, or other learning space.

Requirements

  • To meet the new Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA), this position requires that applicant either hold an associate degree or higher, college credit equivalency (72 quarter or 48-semester credits) or have graduated from High School and passed the ETS ParaPro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training or equivalent is required. Training is provided upon hire.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teachers and enjoy interacting with children; ability to communicate effectively; demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to interact with children in a warm, confident manner; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to operate computers and willingness to adapt to new technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide interventions for students in literacy and/or math to reach and maintain grade level performance.
  • In collaboration with the LAP and/or Title I Teacher, leads small group activities; adapts lessons to meet specific student instructional needs and goals; follows the instructional curriculum; and assists with the preparation of instructional materials.
  • Provides interventions to individual students or small groups; assists students in problem-solving and organizational skills; and provides feedback to the LAP Teacher, Title I Teacher, and classroom teacher on student progress.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate student records and documentation.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Attends administrative or educational LAP, Title I, staff meetings, or other professional development meetings as necessary.
  • Performs related duties consistent with the job description and employee assignment.
