About The Position

The Department of Languages at The New School seeks a language tutor in the following languages: Chinese and French (Spring 2026 Availability). Language Tutors will offer at least five hours of availability per week (on at least three days) in order to tutor our students at the Languages Tutoring Lab/Online. Language tutors support our students in their development of language proficiency by offering grammar explanations, reviewing drafts of written work, and supporting oral and listening skills development. Tutors are also required to attend Tutor Meetings, Training Sessions, and to be in correspondence with the Tutoring Coordinator and the Assistant Director of Administration. Tutors may also be asked to support department cultural activities and weekly conversation sessions. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between SENS-UAW, Local 7902 and the University. Rate: $29.20/hr Work Mode: On campus or remote Candidates are expected to have advanced or near-native fluency in the target language. Candidates are expected to have an intermediate-to-high proficiency level in the English language in order to be able to offer explanations to students. Excellent organizational and communication skills Prior tutoring or teaching experience in the target language. Graduate students (preferred), advanced undergraduate students (will be considered). Familiarity with language teaching or pedagogy. Knowledge and experience using Starfish, PPT, Canvas, Skype, Zoom, Google Drive. Experience using web-based tools (such as apps. Blogs, wikis, etc.). Requirements
