About The Position

Goldbelt Heritage Foundation (GHF) is a nonprofit organization committed to preserving and revitalizing the culture, language, and ways of knowing of the Tlingit people of Southeast Alaska. Through educational programming, language revitalization, arts, and community collaboration, GHF fosters Indigenous knowledge and strengthens cultural identity for current and future generations. The Language Program Coordinator supports the Language Program Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of GHF’s Lingít Language programs. This position plays a central role in coordinating language classes, documentation projects, curriculum development, and community engagement while supporting administrative, financial, and grant compliance needs. This position is 100% grant-funded, contingent upon continued funding across multiple sources.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Tlingit cultures and ability to integrate cultural values into programming
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and program data systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Alaska Native Studies, Alaska Native language, or a related field. Six years of equivalent experience may be considered in substitution
  • At least two (2) years of experience in language program coordination, education administration, or grant implementation
  • Position will be exposed to multiple allergens including cedar and wool (sheep and mountain goat)
  • Must be willing to travel to local and regional events via plane, car, ferry, etc. as needed
  • Needs a valid AK driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in drafting and managing contracts, MOAs, and MOUs
  • Experience in budget tracking, grant reporting, or financial administration
  • Familiarity with Southeast Alaska Native communities, schools, and service providers
  • Any level of knowledge of the Tlingit language
  • Background in youth mentorship, education, or cultural program development

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Language Program Manager in planning, implementing, and evaluating Lingít language revitalization initiatives
  • Coordinate schedules, logistics, and communications for language classes, workshops, and community-based language activities
  • Support language documentation projects, including coordination of recordings, transcription workflows, and data organization
  • Assist with curriculum review, preparation, and publishing of language learning materials
  • Ensure program activities align with grant objectives, deliverables, and reporting requirements
  • Support Lingít language learners of all ages through culturally responsive programming and communication
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Elders, fluent speakers, language specialists, and community members
  • Assist in coordinating language immersion activities, camps, and intergenerational learning opportunities
  • Promote respectful integration of cultural knowledge and language practices across all programming
  • Draft, review, and assist with contracts, MOAs, and MOUs with program partners and collaborators
  • Support negotiation and tracking of agreements to ensure compliance with organizational and funding requirements
  • Support coordination with tribal organizations, schools, universities, and language-focused partners
  • Assist with monitoring grant budgets and expenses, ensuring proper documentation and spending alignment with grant guidelines
  • Support the preparation of reports for funders, including participant data, program outcomes, and success stories
  • Responsible for collaborating with the GHF Communications team to promote and outreach department initiatives and publications
  • Maintain organized records for language programs
  • Help maintain financial and program compliance through accurate recordkeeping and reporting, including project management, note-taking, and calendar management
  • Work collaboratively with Elders, local educators, language experts, speakers, learners, and supporters
  • Assist in coordinating community events, language gatherings, and language initiatives
