About the position
The English Learner Interpreter/Translator plays a crucial role in facilitating communication between school staff and non-English speaking families. This position involves interpreting verbal exchanges and translating written documents to ensure that families receive important information in their native language. The role requires cultural sensitivity and effective communication skills to support diverse backgrounds within the school community.
Responsibilities
- Interpret exchanges between school staff and non-English speaking families.
- Translate provided documents into another language to assist in communication.
- Serve as a neutral conduit rendering information accurately without additions or omissions.
- Communicate in person and by phone with families and staff.
- Participate in meetings with school staff and students/families.
- Maintain complete confidentiality of all messages and conversations.
- Arrive punctually at the assigned location.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Fluency in a second language and English.
- Prior experience as an interpreter preferred.
