Summary: Cultivates and maintains landscaping and grounds surrounding campus buildings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Cares for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, trimming and edging around flower beds, walks and walls. Plants flowers, pulls weeds, repairs structures and maintains outside of buildings as needed. Applies pesticides to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitos, wasps, ticks and others. Mixes, sprays and spreads fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders. Determines and plants appropriate seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees and shrubs. Uses gardening tools to apply mulch for protection. Attaches wires from planted trees to support stakes. Interprets construction documents and successfully implements the design. Operates construction-related equipment as needed. Follows standard operating procedures for assigned tasks and projects; follows all safety protocol. Attends training as required. Deploys for emergency response due to inclement weather, i.e. snow and ice, tornado or other crisis. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Minimum of three years of experience in landscape construction. Valid driver's license. Basic ability to interpret and implement construction documents. Intermediate ability to operate construction-related equipment. Working Conditions: Extensive driving, walking and equipment operation. Exposure to: extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers, pollen producing environment paint and petroleum products. Work time expectation: 90% of time will be physical labor, 10% training and misc.
