About The Position

Performs routine and directed grounds and landscape maintenance of University property. Operates vehicles, equipment, and tools common to landscaping and grounds maintenance including snow and ice removal. Removes trash from trash receptacles and polices campus for debris and litter. Performs work associated with event set-up and tear-down. Valid Drivers License is required

Responsibilities

  • Performs regular and directed grounds and landscape maintenance by mowing lawns with riding or push mowers; trimming and edging around trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, sidewalks and buildings; weeding, thinning and cleaning flower beds and other grounds by hand or utilizing proper tools and equipment.
  • Water lawns, shrubs and ornamental gardens as needed.
  • Leaf removal, mulching, spreading of topsoil.
  • Planting and maintaining seasonal plants, flowers, grass, shrubs, bushes, trees, etc.
  • Application of lime, fertilizer, etc. as instructed by Supervisor.
  • Prune's shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged limbs, branches, or twigs. Removal of tree limbs that are posing a danger.
  • Removes trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds, drains, manhole covers, etc., for debris. Empties outside trash receptacles.
  • Sweeps and cleans main entrances to buildings, sidewalks, plazas and streets with broom, blower or mechanical means.
  • Operates various types of equipment, hand and power tools such as: backhoe, single axle dump truck (Non CDL), pickup truck, fork truck, farm tractor, ATV's and UTV's, salt spreaders, dollies, hand-trucks, sod cutters, rototillers, jackhammers, blowers, vacuums, riding mowers, spreaders, brooms, edging tools, walk-behind mowers, power trimmers, chainsaws, pole saws, rakes, picks, etc.
  • Installation and securing of landscape block, cleaning out ditches/troughs, lifts and carries landscaping materials.
  • Installs and performs construction with asphalt, concrete, blacktop, cement, sculpture stone, brick, etc., as required in normal road and grounds maintenance.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in grounds keeping.
  • Responds and participates in storm clean up or other emergencies either natural or man made.
  • Required weekend work/overtime for athletic events, student activities, and emergency call out situations.
  • Performs event work (loading, transportation, unloading and set-up) and rearrangement of tents, tables, chairs, podiums, etc. campus-wide (both on and off campus) using a vehicle (pickup, flatbed, box truck, etc), powered industrial truck, dolly/hand cart or by physical means.
  • Remove snow/ice via mechanical (ie; blade/brush), manual (ie; shovel/broom) and chemical (ice melt) means from sidewalks, campus walkways, building entrances and plazas up to exterior doors.
