POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Landscape Small Engine Mechanic repairs gasoline and diesel engines used to power landscape equipment, compressors, generators, pumps, and similar machines in accordance with trade standards. Employees in this job classification are responsible for preventative maintenance, inspection and minor and major repairs of landscape equipment. This job class requires the ability to use and operate computer programs to diagnose, report and maintain landscape equipment and maintain related records.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years related work experience, five years preferred
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to respond to questions from vendors, customers and management
  • Comply with PRIDE’s safety program and adhere to proper safety practices
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and repairs gasoline and diesel engines used to power lawnmowers, garden tractors, weed whackers, chainsaws, blowers, chippers, edgers, snow removal equipment and similar tools/equipment.
  • Performs regularly scheduled maintenance on landscape equipment.
  • Performs on the road repair and towing disabled equipment to shop.
  • Uses hand tools, locates causes of trouble, dismantles engines, and inspects/examines parts for defects.
  • Replaces or repairs parts, such as rings and bearings.
  • Cleans and adjusts carburetors and magnetos, starts repaired engines and listens to sounds to test performance.
  • Where required, occasionally performs maintenance welder job duties.
  • When required, assists landscape manager with taking vehicles to service shop, and to transport equipment or vehicles between sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.
