About The Position

The Department of Facilities Operations within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire an Operations Manager for the Landscape and Natural Resources Department (LNR). This role is responsible for managing and coordinating all landscape operations and maintenance functions across campus. This position oversees daily activities of maintenance teams, including horticultural and spray teams, and ensures the efficient and effective delivery of high-quality landscape services. The Operations Manager serves as the department’s secondary leadership level, providing support to the Director and acting as backup in their absence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
  • Position requires a valid driver’s license.
  • The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s in horticulture, landscape management, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 5+ years in large-scale landscape operations.
  • Professional certification (FNGLA, ISA, APPA) or ability to obtain.
  • Strong budgeting and cost-control experience.
  • Expertise in preventive maintenance, tree care, and IPM.
  • Leadership in staff supervision and training.
  • Knowledge of contract and vendor management.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Able to work flexible schedule for events and operational needs.
  • Ability to develop SOPs and workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all landscape operations and maintenance activities.
  • Supervise maintenance teams, landscape superintendents, and contractors to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop strategies for optimizing processes and improving service delivery.
  • Oversee departmental budgets, purchasing, and cost-control measures.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures, preventive maintenance programs, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plans.
  • Assist with staff recruitment, training, and career development initiatives.
  • Serve as primary liaison for Game Day operations, including vendor coordination and emergency response.
  • Maintain professionalism and adherence to university policies and safety standards.
