About The Position

The job purpose of a Landscape Maintenance Supervisor is to lead and manage the maintenance team to ensure the effective and efficient operation of facilities and equipment. This involves overseeing all maintenance activities, including preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections, to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency. The Landscape Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for assigning tasks, scheduling maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Additionally, they may be involved in training and developing maintenance staff, maintaining records of maintenance activities, managing inventory and supplies, and coordinating with other departments to support overall organizational goals. The primary job duties and responsibilities of the Landscape Maintenance Supervisor include but are not limited to the following: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems Provide excellent customer service, responding to clients’ requests in a timely manner Schedule work for crews, depending on work priorities, crew or equipment availability, or weather conditions Monitor project activities to ensure that instructions are followed, deadlines are met, and schedules are maintained Overseeing and inspecting completed work to ensure conformance to specifications, standards, and contract requirements of 40+ accounts Train workers in tasks such as transplanting or pruning trees or shrubs, finishing cement, using equipment, or caring for turf Enforce operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety Provide workers with assistance in performing duties as necessary to meet deadlines Order the performance of corrective work when problems occur and recommend procedural changes to avoid such problems Inventory supplies of tools, equipment, or materials to ensure that sufficient supplies are available and items are in usable condition Confer with other supervisors to coordinate work activities with those of other departments or units Perform administrative duties, such as authorizing leaves or processing time sheets Required Education and Experience Thompson + Hanson requires at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or Agricultural Studies or a related field, with a minimum of 5 year of previous experience in Landscape Management, including a minimum of 2 years supervising crews and managing client accounts. The incumbent must also be fluent in English (reading/writing/speaking). Qualifications: Limited design ability to enhance gardens Strong knowledge of plants, insects, and diseases Experience in developing processes, procedures, and people to increase profitability, efficiencies, and engagement Drive a truck and trailer; must have valid driver’s license Strong analytical, organizational, critical thinking and interpersonal skills Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems using a high degree of independent judgement and personal initiative. Spanish speaking abilities are preferred but not necessary Working Conditions The Maintenance Supervisor typically works outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain or snow, depending on the season. The company will notify their employees if extreme weather conditions are unworkable for the day/week in advance. However, should the weather permit workable, it is expected to be exposed to outdoor weather in extreme heat or cold, high places such as roof tops, sounds or noise levels that may be distracting and uncomfortable. Maintenance Supervisors are expected to be familiar with using herbicides, fertilizers, pesticides, and any related products to complete the job and can be exposed to hazardous equipment. The risk of using such products and equipment are acquiring minor burns, cuts, bites or stings or exposed to extremely bright or inadequate lighting. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is regularly required to bend, twist the body, keeping or regaining their balance, making repetitive motions such as standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, walking and running. The incumbent may also be required to push/pull certain objects, bend or stoop to pick up objects, climb ladders, scaffolding and stairs, grasp or squeeze to hold onto railings or items, and move or lift objects up to 75 pounds such as large pots and equipment or multiple plants. The incumbent is expected to also be knowledgeable in using the following tool but not limited to: lawn mower, rakes, pruners and shears, hedge trimmers, weed whackers, blowers, power saws: chain and pruning, hand or power tools, tillers, spreaders such as mulch, rotary, and sand, wheelbarrows and wagons. The Maintenance Supervisor is also required to be able to drive a van or light trucks less than 3 tons to multiple locations to assist and check on crew members.

Requirements

  • Thompson + Hanson requires at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or Agricultural Studies or a related field
  • minimum of 5 year of previous experience in Landscape Management, including a minimum of 2 years supervising crews and managing client accounts
  • must also be fluent in English (reading/writing/speaking)
  • Drive a truck and trailer; must have valid driver’s license
  • Strong analytical, organizational, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
