About The Position

The Landscape Maintenance Laborer position involves manual labor associated with the landscaping and maintenance of city parks, properties, and right-of-ways. The role requires self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision, following established routines. The laborer will report to the Horticulture Supervisor and will be responsible for various tasks related to plant care and grounds maintenance.

Requirements

• Must possess a valid Drivers' License with a driving record suitable for insurability.
• Knowledge of landscaping, grounds keeping, and maintenance.
• Skilled in the use of manual tools such as rakes and shovels.
• Skilled in the operation of light powered tools such as weed eaters, lawn mowers, and sprayers.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral & written instructions.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and ATV.
• Ability to perform all essential functions.
• Ability to work flexible hours which may include nights and weekends.
• Ability to work overtime when needed.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.

Nice To Haves

• At least two (2) years' experience in landscaping or lawn maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Plant, fertilize, prune, spray, and care for plants and trees located on city property.
• Plant seasonal bedding plants.
• Install new landscapes as needed or required.
• Operate light powered machines such as sprayers, lawn mowers, weed eaters, and hand tools.
• Perform mowing, trimming, raking, and other manual tasks associated with landscaping and ground maintenance.
• Maintain mowers, tools, and other equipment; make simple field adjustments as needed.
• Police grounds and remove any litter or debris as needed or required.
• Assist in installation of seasonal decorations.
• Perform custodial work in support of cleaning and maintenance of department facility and grounds.
