About The Position

The Landscape Group Leader is a highly experienced professional directing the activities of Team Leaders in the Landscape Division of the Construction Department. He or she assures that team resources are used efficiently, personnel are adequately developed, and client needs and expectations are being met. The Group Leader is responsible for training and personnel development on each team and filling in for absent team leaders as required. The Group Leader also is responsible for assisting the sales department in determining potential client enhancement opportunities.

Requirements

  • This position requires a 2- or 4-year degree in landscape construction or a related field, plus one year’s experience as a supervisor in the horticulture industry.
  • A working knowledge of standard horticultural practices and cultural requirements is required along with an advanced understanding of landscape construction concepts.
  • The candidate must be proficient in the use of computers and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including Word and Excel.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, supervisory skills, and a mechanical aptitude are a must.
  • Candidate must have excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • This position requires that the individual to have the following certifications:
  • Certified Pesticide Applicator
  • First/Aid and CPR
  • Class A CDL
  • Virginia Certified Horticulturist
  • Time will be spent in an outdoor environment with limited ability to control noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature. Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • The Landscape Group Leader is expected to work the assigned hours at Southern Landscape Group from Monday through Friday as well as approximately 10 Saturdays throughout the year. This is a salaried position with a normally expected workday of 6:30 AM until 5:30 PM, with one designated closing night per week.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, and supervises work daily for the landscape teams. Assists crews as necessary to meet production schedules.
  • Conducts reviews of plans and projects prior to installation, including pre-site job visits.
  • Monitors quality of work by inspecting all job sites prior to completion.
  • Coaches team leaders on improvement and skill development.
  • Interacts with clients as required to ensure satisfaction.
  • By means of observation and client contact, recommends enhancement opportunities to the sales team.
  • Reviews daily time and other management dials for landscape team leaders and takes actions or makes recommendations to management to correct variances outside expected results.
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly tasks in Aspire to allow for complete and accurate data input.
  • Trains team members in proper horticultural, construction and equipment operation techniques. Monitors crew performance, conducts periodic crew performance reviews and documents all personnel actions. Assists management in hiring decisions.
  • Focusing on long-term scheduling and availability of crews, works with other Group Leaders to ensure maximum utilization of equipment and staff.
  • Assists management and sales in job cost estimating.
  • Enforces safe work behavior and maintains safe work sites.
  • Assists with winter snow contracts as needed
  • Procures necessary materials to backfill inventory items as well as all items required for teams to complete designated landscape projects.
  • Oversees fleet and equipment used by Landscape Teams and ensure proper care and maintenance of trucks are being used. Alerts Production Manager to necessary repairs and upgrades.
  • Manages plant pad and plant deliveries to ensure quality plant material and viability until installation.
  • Manages SLG yard including dumpsite.
  • Executes warranty claims and problems.
  • Meets or exceeds production goals and KPI’s.
  • Supports the company's mission, goals, and core values.
  • Assist with other duties for the good of team members and the Company
