About The Position

The Landscaping/Grounds Management Intern will work closely with the Groundskeeping Supervisor to maintain and enhance the museum’s outdoor spaces. This hands-on role includes planting, seasonal clean-up, and landscape design/build projects. The intern will gain experience with plant care, irrigation systems, and grounds maintenance while contributing to the overall beauty and functionality of the museum campus. Requirements

  • Be pursuing an undergraduate degree, preferably in Landscaping, Horticulture, or Grounds Management.
  • Have at least two years of college completed by the start of the internship.
  • Possess basic plant knowledge and an interest in landscape design/build.
  • Be capable of lifting to 50 lbs.
  • Be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to use hand tools and groundskeeping equipment safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planting flowers, shrubs, and trees to enhance the Museum’s landscaping, including seasonal annuals and perennials.
  • Perform daily grounds maintenance tasks such as campus clean-up, trash collection, and general upkeep to ensure a neat and welcoming appearance.
  • Perform seasonal clean-up tasks, including tree and shrub trimming, mulching, transplanting perennials, and container garden maintenance.
  • Support landscape design and build projects under the guidance of the Groundskeeping Supervisor.
  • Water and maintain annual plants and landscaped areas.
  • Help with the set-up, transportation, and takedown of tables, chairs, and equipment for Museum events.
  • Maintain groundskeeping equipment by fueling, cleaning, and performing minor maintenance tasks.
  • Observe other departments to learn more about Museum operations.
