Apex is seeking a full-time landscape designer or landscape architect to join our Vancouver, Washington office. The Apex landscape architecture team is a close-knit group that collaborates on a wide range of projects primarily throughout Oregon and Washington. We are seeking a team member to join our group and assist in the design and technical development of projects. This role involves collaborating with a diverse group of multi-disciplinary professionals within a progressive national company. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, a self-starter, innovative, creative, comfortable receiving and providing feedback, embraces teamwork and wants to make a positive impact. The ideal candidate has a broad interest in the varied aspects of the practice as well as an interest or background in ecological design. The ability to integrate natural plant communities within the built environment will be key to the success of this role. Apex is a national multidisciplinary consulting and engineering firm with a robust portfolio of capabilities in water; environmental services; environmental, social and governance (ESG) and resiliency; health and safety; compliance and assurance; and infrastructure. We operate in all 50 states and maintain a skilled, innovative team of landscape architects, land-use planners, public engagement and outreach specialists, scientists, geologists, engineers, surveyors and technicians. Apex landscape architects are a part of an interdisciplinary team including engineers, surveyors, environmental resource specialists, and scientists. Our landscape architecture team has extensive experience with transportation, urban design, parks open spaces as well as public and private site development projects. We support all project phases of site design, including concept, construction documentation, feasibility, state and federal natural resource permitting, public outreach, bid support, construction oversight, and project closeout.

Requirements

  • Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a professional office.
  • Highly motivated, well-organized team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong desire to collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, biologists, planners and other practice area specialists to achieve project goals.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Land FX planting, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, Sketch Up and Microsoft Office software.
  • Proficient with Pacific Northwest plants, native and ornamental, and planting design.
  • Basic experience in building construction drawing packages.
  • Basic experience in preparing project specifications and cost estimates.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with WSDOT, PBOT, and/or ODOT standards, specifications, and processes, including preparation of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) and design-bid-build delivery methods
  • Knowledge of Central/Eastern Washington and Oregon planting design.
  • Knowledge Rocky Mountain states’ planting design.
  • Knowledge of irrigation design.

Responsibilities

  • Assist landscape architecture team in design, drawing production and project management support.
  • Assist landscape architecture team with complex projects from initial concept through to completion.
  • Work effectively with multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Prepare effective planting designs and construction documents with minimal oversight and assistance.
  • Develop project specific construction details with an understanding of project budget and constructability.
  • Perform site analysis, product and plant research and sourcing.
  • Integrate sustainable design and construction methodologies into our work.
  • Maintain and assist in improving existing company standards, processes and systems.
  • Contribute to proposals, presentations, and marketing efforts.
