POSITION OVERVIEW A Horticulture Team Leader is an experienced team member. The primary function of a Horticulture Team Leader is to direct the activities of a team of two or more team members on a job. A Horticulture Team Leader is able to operate a variety of equipment and has thorough horticultural knowledge as well as lighting, water gardens, and irrigation.

Requirements

  • A high school degree or GED is required as well as two years of documented experience in the green industry
  • Must have great verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to use Apple technology for time tracking and job management
  • Must have great analytical problem solving and decision-making ability
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with clients and professionals
  • Ability to use Google translate efficiently to communicate with Spanish speaking workers
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record
  • VDACS Registered Tech Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • NALP Landscape Technician Cert. - Landscape Install & Irrigation
  • VCH (Skilled)

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed on daily basis
  • Plan daily tasks, labor, and equipment for current and next day’s work
  • Read, measure, and interpret landscape plans
  • Working knowledge and understanding of pesticides used
  • Mix and apply various pesticides using proper PPE and application techniques
  • Lead team members performing the following landscape services: Landscape bed maintenance: spray and pull weeds
  • Pruning: horticulturally correct tree/shrub/perennial pruning and dead heading
  • Plant health: identify, diagnose, and treat plant health issues regarding diseases and insects
  • Irrigation: controller programming, minor irrigation repairs, and seasonal adjustment
  • Water features: care & maintenance of pumps, aquatic plants, water chemistry, and fish
  • Lighting: controller programming, repair and replace low-voltage lighting
  • Floral services: annual plant identification, bed preparation, proper plant installation, layout, care and maintenance
  • Spring clean-ups: bed cleanout, bed edging, pre-emergent, plant fertilization, and mulch installation
  • Blowing: using handheld or backpack blower to blow off all hard surfaces
  • Snow removal
  • Any other tasks necessary.
  • Operates small and medium duty tools and equipment to include but not limited to: hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re-definers, rototiller, chainsaw, pole saw, string trimmer, ladder, backpack sprayer, dump trailer/bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader, voltage meter, tape measure, plumb bob, level
  • Identifies enhancement ideas to improve client property and submits via issue tickets.
  • Learns and has a working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities and knows limits of work.
  • Responsible for training and coaching a team of two or more team members to help develop their skills & ensure team members receive proper training
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site and ensure truck/tools/equipment are properly maintained.
  • Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule and budget to quality standard
  • Responsible for all tools being returned to the shop at the end of a workday and tagging any tools needing repairs
  • Ability to drive truck & trailer combinations
  • Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance
  • Performs daily check-ins with Group Leader by 3:00 PM to discuss current project status and equipment needs for the following day
  • Works as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitude
  • Knows and supports the company’s vision, mission, and core values
