About The Position

The Landscape Architect Trainee/Assistant Landscape Architect position at the New York State Department of Transportation involves providing landscape architecture design and support services on capital and maintenance projects related to transportation facilities. The role includes reviewing projects for landscape and environmental impacts, preparing plans and specifications, and coordinating landscape development with engineering and architectural work. The position may require serving within the Incident Command System to support emergency situations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or higher-level degree in landscape architecture or a Landscape Architect's License from any state.
  • For advancement to Assistant Landscape Architect, proof of passing any two sections of the LARE is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MicroStation CADD, ArcGIS, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of accessible design and ADA compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Landscape Architecture design and support services on capital and maintenance projects involving transportation facilities.
  • Review projects for landscape and environmental impacts and prepare associated documents.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates for various landscape-related projects.
  • Coordinate landscape development and site work with engineering and architectural work.
  • Provide technical assistance and advice to project staff and management.
  • Advise on environmental rules and regulations.
  • Prepare landscape architectural renderings and presentation material for public meetings.
  • Evaluate projects proposed by local governments and organizations.
  • Prepare, deliver, and/or review landscape architecture and environmental documentation.
  • Prepare permit applications and monitor software tools for necessary work assignments.
