About The Position

The Landfill Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining various landfill equipment to ensure efficient day-to-day operations at the landfill site. This role involves performing essential tasks such as compaction of waste, maintaining roads, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational regulations.

Requirements

• Experience operating heavy machinery, particularly landfill equipment.
• Ability to perform manual labor and lift heavy materials.
• Knowledge of safety procedures related to landfill operations.
• Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Maintain roads and grading of landfill site.
• Ensure proper erosion control of landfill areas.
• Compact waste into landfill space to ensure proper voids are filled.
• Spread, push, dig, move, cover, and compact materials.
• Cover built slopes with dirt.
• Operate a variety of heavy compaction and earthmoving equipment, including compactors, dozers, excavators, and shredders.
• Grade site, topography, and drainage features.
• Monitor customer activities to assure compliance with established rules and regulations.
• Perform manual tasks associated with landfill operations, including cutting grass and cleaning grounds.
• Check equipment daily and report failures to the Landfill Superintendent promptly.
• Record inspections and routine service logs.
• Provide service to equipment when feasible and check all repaired equipment before putting it back into service.
• Perform job site safety procedures to ensure and maintain a safe workspace.
• Assist in performing scale-house duties or general office duties as needed.
• Enforce City policies on the use of the landfill.
