About The Position

This position is responsible for operating a landfill in compliance with state and federal regulations. The work is typically performed outdoors while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.

Requirements

• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the performance of waste disposal activities.
• Knowledge of erosion and sedimentation best management practices.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of report preparation, filing, and records management.
• Skill in problem solving and decision making.
• Skill in management and supervision of inmate laborers.
• Skill in operating standard office equipment including work related computer applications.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and maintains vegetation on slopes and disturbed areas.
• Installs and maintains erosion and sedimentation control structures.
• Drives dump truck and operates hydroseeder.
• Inspects loads and directs to proper disposal area.
• Assists customers with questions and concerns; maintains radio contact with landfill personnel.
• Makes daily bank deposits; maintains division inventory of parts and supplies.
• Prepares daily interior and exterior duty assignments for inmates; transports inmates to and from work sites and Muscogee County Prison.
• Enforces environmental regulations; completes regular inspections of facilities and submits all required reports.
• Operates bulldozer.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
