About The Position

This position involves performing semiskilled and skilled duties related to City maintenance, construction, and repair. The role requires the operation of both light and heavy construction and automotive equipment, including but not limited to a Cat D8 dozer, 836 compactor, 340 Excavator, 745 haul truck, and a 627k scraper. The responsibilities include handling refuse, tires, asbestos, recyclable materials, and solid waste at the City's landfill or solid waste facilities, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The position also entails routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, as well as miscellaneous duties such as property cleanup and snow removal.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED certification.
• Minimum of two years' experience in manual and semiskilled work in construction and/or maintenance activities.
• Experience operating light and heavy construction-related equipment.
• Ability to obtain a valid Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate bulldozers, loaders, landfill compactors, hook lift trucks, and other equipment to manage refuse and solid waste.
• Excavate, construct, and maintain landfill facilities, including loading and hauling dirt for daily cover.
• Construct and maintain roads and platforms accessing landfill areas using light and heavy equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment; maintain records of equipment use and repair.
• Pick up trash and solid waste from roads and perform property cleanup activities as assigned.
• Perform snow and ice control and removal procedures, including plowing and spreading deicing chemicals.
• Carry out other duties as necessary for the proper performance of the position.
