About The Position

The City of Laramie is accepting applications for a Landfill Equipment Operator II. Ideal candidates will be highly motivated and eager to put their skills to use in a safe and efficient manner while providing excellent customer service. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform a variety of duties involved in landfill, recycling and diversion operations including but not limited to hauling dirt to cover garbage and other waste material; assisting with scale house operations as needed, directing dumping; watching for unacceptable waste; building roads to new waste areas, maintaining roads for public travel; building and moving fences to contain litter, assist with litter collection, composting and recycling. Perform daily pre and post trips by inspecting and reviewing condition of equipment including checking oil and fluid levels, brakes and lights, cleaning and performing maintenance to landfill equipment; filling and greasing vehicles. Operate a variety of heavy equipment, tools and equipment used in the disposal of solid waste including scraper, wheel loaders, compactor, dozer and baler with precision, caution and accuracy. Work safely at all times, including while operating large vehicles and equipment. Maintain simple records and logs; complete reports as necessary. Keep waste compacted and covered as outlined in the landfill permit. May be required to assist the collections side of the Solid Waste Division. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required. QUALIFICATIONS (A combination of the following experience and training, or the equivalent of, would be qualifying): Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (Class B minimum) with tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain within 6 months. Possession of, or ability to obtain a landfill operators certification. Some experience in heavy equipment operation. Occasional weekends, holidays and overtime may be required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to sit, stand, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 75 pounds; exposure to cold, dust, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining workspace, mechanical hazards, ability to travel to different sites and locations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Applicants who are offered an appointment are required to pass a comprehensive background investigation, drug screening test and driver license check.
