About The Position

The Landfill Attendant is responsible for overseeing landfill operations, providing information and support to clients, monitoring incoming loads, and ensuring compliance with landfill regulations. This part-time position requires interaction with residents and the collection of applicable fees while maintaining a safe and organized environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in a related field or a combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a Solid Waste Facility Operator certificate or obtain one within 6 months.
  • Valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  • Good communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Attend the landfill entry gate and check incoming vehicles.
  • Inspect loads of waste to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain daily records and report counts of residents and waste quantities to the Public Works office.
  • Process payments and log information regarding waste loads.
  • Enforce landfill rules and regulations to ensure only acceptable materials are disposed of.
  • Maintain the landfill area in a safe and proper condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
