About The Position

Amerco Real Estate Company is seeking a full-time Planner to join its land use and zoning team. This role involves land planning, graphic preparation, municipal entitlements, and plan preparation for the company's commercial property portfolio across the U.S. and Canada. The Planner will report directly to the management team, including the Director of Land Use and Zoning and the President of AREC. This is an in-person position located in Midtown Phoenix, with working hours from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday; remote work is not an option.

Requirements

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Photoshop and InDesign)
Knowledge of the site development process (specifically design standards and preliminary engineering due diligence)
Ability to read and understand complex zoning codes, general plans, specific plans, and technical reports
Excellent organization and people skills including the ability to work with a wide variety of staff
Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects while maintaining attention to detail

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in urban planning or related field like architecture/engineering

Responsibilities

Research and prepare analysis of municipal zoning codes
Negotiate and finalize entitlements from municipalities
Process applications for rezoning, tentative maps, development agreements, design reviews, general plan amendments, and variances
Attend and present at virtual hearings, pre-application meetings, etc.
Develop and manage relationships with municipal staff and officials
Understand and clearly communicate the needs of different jurisdictions to internal and external stakeholders
Negotiate contracts for services to be performed by outside consultants such as land use attorney, architects, and civil engineers
Prepare graphics and materials using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite
