Land Steward (Summer 2026)
About The Position
OUR TEAM: The Land & Natural Resources team is a small group of motivated and energetic individuals who love working outdoors. We are always seeking to drive value by maintaining safe and aesthetically pleasing landscapes for our fellow Promega employees to enjoy. We work very closely together on maintenance of the campus grounds and ensure that we support each other in our day-to-day roles and in our development, as much as possible. YOUR ROLE: As part of our Land & Natural Resources team, you will be providing hands-on maintenance for the 200+ acres of greenspace and natural areas on our Madison Campus. Your office will be the outdoors as you help take care natural areas including formal landscaped areas with lawn, prairie restorations, ponds, woodlots, wetlands, orchards, agricultural fields, and a campus trail system. Key qualities we are looking for in a Land Steward: flexibility, efficiency, attention to detail, enthusiasm to learn, great interpersonal relationship and communication skills, ability to shrug off what mother nature might throw at you. JOB OBJECTIVE: Assist in maintaining the meaningful outdoor spaces where people can interact with nature on the Promega Madison Campus.
Requirements
- High School diploma or proven work experience that ensures you are ready to be successful in this role.
- Valid driver’s license.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience with building maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping maintenance or other related area.
- Previous experience working with power tools and lawn care equipment including string trimmers, lawn mowers, ATV and tractors.
Responsibilities
- Routine landscape maintenance including mowing, trimming, weeding, garden bed rejuvenation, brush clearing, pruning, and invasive species removal in designated areas.
- Trail maintenance including spreading woodchips, cutting excess brush, log moving and applying specialty herbicides in areas as directed.
- Landscape vehicle and equipment maintenance, including cleaning and preventative maintenance service and checks.
- Detailed cleaning of exterior common areas. Power washing of patio areas, walkways, and windows.
- Routine grounds inspection for trash; removal, including dumping exterior waste containers around buildings.
- Aid in the set up and take down of the weekly Farmer’s Market.
- Assist with farm and horticultural projects including but not limited to: produce harvest, compost collection and removal, and weed removal in specific areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
