About The Position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Land Planning Intern to join our team in our Frisco, TX office. The position will work in a collaborative and integrated team of professionals that include landscape architects, civil engineers, planners, surveyors, environmental scientists, and transportation engineers. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

Requirements

  • In process of obtaining a four-year degree in Planning or related field.
  • Strong freehand illustration and computer rendering skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities well.
  • Portfolio or work samples may be required if considered for an interview.

Nice To Haves

  • Computer skills including AutoCAD, Sketch-up, 3DS Max, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In-design), Microsoft Word, MS Excel, and Geographic Information System (GIS).
  • Working toward or desire to gain certification for American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
  • Working toward or gained sustainability credential (LEED and/or ENVISION).

Responsibilities

  • Work with the senior certified planner to build increasing skills to review and interpret regulatory codes, ordinances, and comprehensive plans.
  • Review and analyze land features relating to opportunities, constraints, and layout options for development.
  • Prepare due diligence analysis, land development concepts, master development plans, and graphic illustrations using both digital and hand drawn formats.
  • Develop and refine design solutions with senior certified planners.
  • Participate in project meetings with staff, clients, & regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in editing technical plans, details, and specifications.
  • Visit construction sites to gather information and support senior project team members during the construction phase.
  • Use in depth knowledge of entitlement procedures and required regulatory approvals.
  • Ensure division, regional, and company values, policies and practices are consistently followed within the Planning service.
  • Lead by example - display solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism.
