About The Position

The Land Codes Inspector is a member of the Town’s Livability Team and enforces the Town’s Zoning Code Regulations (Chapter 156) as well as defined sections of Chapter 50 (Garbage & Refuse), Chapter 93 (Nuisance), Chapter 95 (Streets & Sidewalks), and Chapter 96 (Political Signs). This position is also responsible for coordinating Livability Team enforcement activities among departments as necessary and educating citizens and businesses on the Town’s code of ordinances.

Requirements

  • Associate degree with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a job-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience in Planning & Zoning, Building Inspections, and/or Law Enforcement is preferred.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of basic principles and practices of constitutional rights and legal processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized field and administrative duties to ensure compliance with the Town's zoning regulations and related livability codes.
  • Investigates land use-related violations, educates landowners to win compliance, and, when necessary, issues citations and follows up on violations until the situation has been properly remedied.
  • Conducts field assessments regularly to identify and correct potential livability code violations.
  • Attends court hearings and testifies concerning zoning and livability violations.
  • Reviews existing ordinances and recommends amendments.
  • Coordinates enforcement efforts with the Police Department, the Fire Department, Engineering and Development Services, Public Services, Business License and the Court as needed to ensure Code compliance.
  • Educates citizens and businesses on the Town of Mount Pleasant’s Code of Ordinances.
  • Responds to citizen questions and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Works weekend or evening shifts as necessary to address/investigate code violations.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records and files.
  • Performs other related assigned duties.
