About The Position

This position is located within the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR). DPR provides quality urban recreation and leisure services for residents and visitors to the District Columbia. DPR supervises many of District of Columbia's recreation/community centers, parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, spray parks, tennis courts, community gardens, dog parks, and aquatic facilities. The agency also coordinates a wide variety of recreation programs, including sports leagues, youth development, therapeutic recreation, aquatic programming, outdoor adventure, camping, and senior citizen activities. In addition, adaptive programs and facilities are available for people with disabilities. This position serves as a Land and Water Conservation Fund Compliance Inspector responsible for ensuring the compliance of all past and current District of Columbia Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) projects with National Park Service rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • To be creditable, the incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, conducts, and manages audits of all District LWCF project sites (100+ locations) to ensure compliance with the National Park Service LWCF Manual and programmatic requirements.
  • Ensure funded lands are maintained for outdoor recreation use in perpetuity, including compliance with ADA accessibility, required signage, and public access during operating hours.
  • Prepares reports for each project site, drawing conclusions from on-site audits and communications with land managers.
  • Develops recommendations for sites determined to be out of compliance.
  • Collects and analyzes large amounts of information to determine compliance or in compliance on project sites.
  • As needed, develop new and improved management or design techniques to assist DPR to achieve compliance goals.
  • Prepares presentations, memoranda, correspondence, and letters identifying conditions identified during audits.
  • Prepares information to be shared publicly in coordination with the LWCF Program Manager.
