The LAN Chicago Network Engineer position is responsible for performing complex professional, advisory, and technical functions for Local Area Network (LAN) Services within the Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT). This role involves troubleshooting and resolving network issues, designing and modifying network communications, and ensuring the effective operation of LAN components across multiple state-wide locations.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues reported by customers and monitoring systems.
  • Meet with users to determine layout and specifications for network communications.
  • Design, develop, and modify complex network communications including routers, switches, wireless access points, and cabling.
  • Perform complex hardware and software staging and installation.
  • Stay updated on new developments in the information technology field through continued education and training.
  • Experience in network engineering and support for Local Area Networks (LAN).
  • Knowledge of network components such as routers, switches, and wireless access points.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with users and understand their needs.
  • Familiarity with current information technology products and vendors.
  • Experience with hardware and software installation processes.
