About The Position

The 1st Assistant 7th Grade Girls Basketball Coach supports the Head Coach in developing a positive, skill-focused, and team-oriented basketball program that builds fundamentals, confidence, and character in middle school athletes. This role assists with planning and leading practices, reinforcing core skills, promoting sportsmanship, and ensuring a safe environment while upholding WIAA standards and district expectations for conduct, supervision, and overall player development.

Requirements

• WSP/FBI fingerprint clearance.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain prior to season).
• High school graduate or GED completion.
• Ability to obtain required WIAA coaching clock hours.
• Knowledge of safe and effective coaching techniques for middle school athletes.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and school staff.
• Demonstrated commitment to sportsmanship and positive athlete relationships.

Nice To Haves

• Experience motivating, teaching, and mentoring young athletes.
• Experience developing character, teamwork, and life skills through athletics.
• Successful experience in coaching basketball at the school, club, or community level.
• Ability to contribute to the growth and long-term strength of the middle school basketball program.

Responsibilities

• Assist the 7th Grade Head Coach with all aspects of the basketball program, including practice planning, drills, and game preparation.
• Teach and reinforce basketball fundamentals appropriate for middle school athletes.
• Promote positive sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, and integrity at all times.
• Supervise athletes to ensure a safe environment and adherence to WIAA and district expectations.
• Support appropriate discipline, communication of expectations, and academic responsibility for student-athletes.
• Assist with equipment care, inventory, and preparation of practice and game spaces.
• Help maintain program documentation, including eligibility, attendance, and required records.
• Represent Lakeside Middle School and the district with professionalism and positive character.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
