This is a limited term position in the University of Wisconsin - Madison Police Lake Rescue and Safety Department. This position is responsible for overseeing day to day recreational activities of University students, staff, and the general public involving aquatic activities on Lake Mendota. Employees in this position are responsible for ensuring recreational safety by detecting and correcting unsafe boating, swimming, and other lake related practices and providing rescue assistance. Employees work closely with campus organizations developing and implementing safety policies and are responsible for providing advisory services related to safety of existing and forecasted lake weather conditions. Individuals in this position will be involved in educational efforts to promote safe recreational practices through workshops, media communications, facility tours, and other presentations. This is a highly responsible position in public safety, requiring advanced decision making skills and excellent skills and knowledge in aquatic safety. Work is performed under the direction of the Lifesaving Station Supervisor.
