About The Position

Do you like being in an active, outdoor setting around water? Engage with adults and children alike? Montgomery County Parks, Enterprise Division, is currently seeking dynamic, energetic, fun seasonal/intermittent applicants to fill our exciting positions at Lake Needwood Boats, located in Rock Creek Regional Park and Black Hill Boats, located in Black Hill Regional Park. Follow the links below for further details about each facility. Work hours are flexible to include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. These Facilities are closed during the winter months (generally October - April).

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 16 for Boat Dock Hand, 18 for Boat Shop Manager on Duty and Pontoon Tour Operator.
  • Ability to obtain a Boaters Safety Certificate within two weeks of hire date.
  • Minimum of one year of boat operating experience (including motorboats) for Boat Shop Manager on Duty and Pontoon Tour Operator.
  • Boaters Safety Course must be completed before hiring for Boat Shop Manager on Duty and Pontoon Tour Operator.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Attain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (training classes available).
  • Availability to work Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to children and adults boarding and exiting a variety of vessels including kayaks, canoes, peddle boats, rowboats and stand-up paddle boards.
  • Clean and maintain boats, life jackets, boating equipment, docks, and grounds at the facility.
  • Perform general administrative tasks such as cash handling, sales of admissions and other retail items, answering phones and general paperwork filing and office work.
  • Perform custodial maintenance such as sweeping, mopping, trash removal, organization of supplies and equipment and general facility upkeep.
  • Assist Facility Manager with managing and operating a boat rental facility.
  • Supervise staff engaged in operational activities, cash handling, and custodial maintenance related to facility operations.
  • Prepare cash reports and bank deposits for manager's approval.
  • Operate the patrol boat to monitor the lake and assist customers as needed.
  • Notify Manager of facility needs and requests orders for supplies.
  • Operate weekend public pontoon tours of the lake as well as private rides and programs during the week.
